Cost and Funding (Delivered by Rainbow Teaching School Hub in Partnership with the National Institute of Teaching)

Rainbow Teaching School Hub delivers Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programmes on behalf of the National Institute of Teaching (NIoT). There are three training routes available, each with different funding arrangements:

Fee-Paying Route (No Salary)

From the 2025/26 academic year:

  • Full-time training: Tuition fees are £9,790.

  • Part-time training: £7,335 for Year 1, with a further £7,335 charged pro rata depending on the proportion of Year 2 required.

  • Student finance and maintenance loans are available to eligible trainees.

  • DfE tax-free bursaries and scholarships may be available for certain subjects (subject to annual government review).

  • NIoT scholarships and additional support may be available for selected subjects and phases (availability varies by school).

  • Tuition fees for UK/Home students are subject to government policy and national fee caps.

Apprenticeship Route

  • Schools that pay into the apprenticeship levy may use levy funding to cover the cost of training (eligibility criteria apply).

  • Trainees are employed and paid on the unqualified teacher pay scale (UNQ1).

  • Student finance and maintenance loans are not available on this route.

  • There is an optional £1,200 fee for trainees who wish to complete the PGCE academic qualification alongside QTS.

Salaried Route

  • Training fees of £9,790 are paid by the employing school.

  • Trainees are paid on the unqualified teacher pay scale (UNQ1).

  • Student finance and maintenance loans are not available for this route.
