NPQs

NPQ Spring Cohort - Application windows

We are pleased to confirm the application windows for the new NPQ programmes Spring '22 cohort are now open, and you can apply to your chosen programme provider.

Eligibility and Funding:

Teachers and leaders employed in state-funded schools and state-funded organisations that offer 16 to 19 places in England can access a fully-funded NPQ from autumn 2021, to support teachers and pupils following the disruption to learning faced as a result of COVID-19.

Access to funding remains conditional on successful validation of participants’ registration information against Teaching Regulation Agency records, so you must ensure that the information supplied to your NPQ provider matches your teacher record. You can check and update your record via the Teaching Regulation Agency’ Teacher Self-Service Portal.

You can choose the provider that best suits your staff and school. We are working with a host of delivery partners across both of our lead providers to ensure that we secure local delivery for the face-to-face sessions, geographically accessible to all our programme participants. Regardless of which lead provider you choose, you are guaranteed to receive an excellent service from The Rainbow Teaching School Hub.

Once you have selected your course and provider, you will need to register with the DfE: https://register-national-professional-qualifications.education.gov.uk/

If you would like to sign up with Best Practice Network (BPN):

When completing the application process, under the ‘Engagement Route’ tab, applicants will be asked (via a drop-down menu) to identify whether they are applying through a delivery partner.  At this point, applicants should select ‘Rainbow Teaching School Hub’.

Overview: Reformed suite of NPQs

In October 2020, six new content frameworks were published and from September 2021, this reformed suite of NPQs will be available for teachers and leaders who want to develop their knowledge and skills in school leadership and specialist areas of teaching practice. They set out the details that participants should know and be able to do after completing an NPQ.

These reforms include:

  • reforming the 3 existing NPQs in senior leadership, headship and executive leadership
  • replacing the current NPQ in middle leadership with 3 new NPQs for teachers and
  • leaders who want to develop their expertise in specialist areas of teaching practice

We are delighted to be working with two providers for the NPQ programmes:

Best Practice Network (BPN): BPN, the home of Outstanding Leaders Partnership (OLP), a nationwide network of 165 multi-school organisations, diocese, and university partners. Working in collaboration, BPN provide a nationally led and locally delivered range of quality professional development and accredited training programmes, for all education professionals.

The Church of England Foundation for Educational Leadership (CEFEL):  In partnership with the Catholic Education Service and Chartered College of Teaching and Leadership Matters, CEFEL offer small group expert coaching for every leader on every programme.  You will have the opportunity to learn alongside peers with shared commitment to vision-driven education and the programmes are delivered by expert facilitators from high-performing MATs/schools and Teaching School Hubs, supported by leading academics.
